There are plenty of backup programs available, but not many can pass the Mrs. Wizard acid test for ease of use and kindness to your system and resources.  Backup4all passed with flying colors and I am pleased to include it as a Gem of a backup program.

Backup4all by Softland is very easy to install and use.  You can download (3.86 Mb) the full package and use it for 30 days with no restrictions at all.  Price ranges from $19.95 for the Lite edition to $44.95 for the Professional version (with all the bells and whistles).  This should give you plenty of time to decide to make it your primary backup program and give it a permanent home on your computer.

Backup4AllThe first button on the left (at the top of the main window) is where your new backups begin.  It is a very simple wizard and will guide you through choosing what files you want to backup, what kind of backup you want to do, and where you want to send them.  Once you have your backup planned, right click the icon and choose Properties.  When the Properties window appears, click any of the icons on the left and make all the changes you want.  Uncheck files to remove them from the backup temporarily or highlight the line and click the Remove button to remove it from the set permanently.

If you right click the actual folders in the main window and choose Properties, you can quickly see how much space you will need for your backup.  It doesn't matter if you backup to a CD or DVD.  If you need more space, it will prompt you to put in an additional CD.  I really appreciated the way Backup4all didn't fuss about my DVD recorder.  I braced myself for a brain cell drain, but it turned out to be a non-issue. Thank you, Backup4All! I just chose the DVD drive as the destination, put in a fresh (blank) recordable DVD (right out of the box), and the built-in burner in Backup4All did the rest.

Backup4AllYou are never at the mercy of Backup4all when it comes to restoring your files.  It uses standard Zip compression when you choose to compress your files, so they can be restored to any computer, even if you don't have Backup4all installed.

Backup4all makes backing up your personal files easy.  Their website is a great education on different types of backups (mirror, full backup, differential, and incremental backups).  Spend some time there, learn a lot, download Backup4all and give it a spin!
