Office DragonAVG Anti Virus

The latest version of AVG is one of the first things installed on my new Vista machine. It has performed GREAT with Vista.

As Cootie Catchers go, AVG Anti Virus is one of the best available. As far as I am concerned, and I have been using the FREE version for a couple of years, it ranks right up there with the more notable Norton and McAfee anti virus solutions. I don’t use it because it is free. I use it because it works! I recommend it to my training clients because they aren’t likely to keep it updated if they need a computer science degree to do it.

In today’s world of computers, your anti virus program is one of the most important software applications you will use. Every computer connected to the Internet should be protected against viruses. It isn’t enough to install the latest and greatest. If you don’t keep your cootie catcher up to date, it will be obsolete and you may as well be unprotected within 3 months (or less). If I had to name 1 program you should really become intimate with and learn all you can about, it would be your anti virus program. Have I got you thinking yet? Good!

AVG FREEThe free edition is set to update itself automatically every day. This is really handy if you have a permanent connection to the Internet. update any time you want, double click on the AVG icon in the System Tray (bottom right of your main computer screen).  Click the Check for Updates button. To change when AVG checks for updates, click where it says Scheduler in the Security Status area of the main window. In the next window that appears, you can set the time of day you want it to check for updates.

AVG is automatically set to scan your computer once a day for viruses and cooties.  The Resident Shield provides automatic cootie scanning in real time.  This means any new file that is introduced to your computer, including email files, are automatically scanned before you can do anything with them.  This adds a comfort level to using a computer that can't be beat.

The pay version of AVG does have a lot more features and more things you can tweak and set, but I haven’t done more than read about it on the website. Since I recommend the free version so much, I prefer to use it exclusively, and I have never been unhappy with it. It is a simple, no nonsense solution to cooties and passes every Mrs. Wizard test!
